9-11 Survivor

Since today is the 5 year anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, I’d like to share with you a real Survivor story from the Twin Towers.

I was watching a documentary last week on the Discovery Channel about the Twin Towers. It looked at what happened in the Towers before they collapsed based on telephone conversations, survivor interviews and re-creations of the events of that day.

One survivor story I found really fascinating and incredible to believe. A man was on the phone that day discussing business. He looked out the window and could see at eye-level a plane heading right for the Tower (the north I think) and him. It’s pretty unbelievable. Imagine staring out your window and you are faced with this view! What’s the first thing that would enter your mind? So he got under his desk. The plane must have crashed a floor or two above him because his office and the floor he was on was in ruins. This turned out to be a smart move. He survived the crash. Although he was temporarily and partially deaf, he could still hear a phone ringing in the office which to him seemed surreal. Now all he had to do was get out of there, but how? He seemed to be trapped. He called out for help. Luckily another man was trying to make his way out of the building with his colleagues and could hear him. He came to his rescue and instructed him to climb up a pile of rubble and climb through a small hole.

In the end, this man was able to climb down the stairs from 70th something floor, face almost certain death just staring in his face and live to tell the events of the day. Pretty incredible!

This is a person I can call a true Survivor.
